Shima (志摩市) is in Mie. Shima City was born out of the merger of four districts in 2005. Shima is most famous for pearl cultivation and is a popular playground for fans of watersports and tourists, generally.
Get in
Kintetsu Railway's Toba Line links Shima to Ise via Toba. Local trains and Limited Express trains are available (stopping at every station). Buses from Ugata Station(鵜方駅) provide access to other areas of Shima. The last station on the line is Kashikojima(賢島).
Get around
The best way to get around Shima is by bus or by taxi. Both can add up in the end, but there is also a car rental right next to Ugata Station. But depending on what you want to do the bus is probably the easiest and cheapest.
See
Do
- Parque Espana (パルケ エスパーニャ). An ersatz Spanish "village" theme park and probably Shima's main attraction.
- Goza Shirahama (御座白浜) (A 60 minute bus ride from Ugata Station.). Go for a swim at this nice and crowded beach.
- Shima Marine land (志摩マリンランド). Shima Marine land is a small marina located across the street from the Kashikojima train station. They have penguins, sea turtles, manta ray, and hundreds of types of fish. Compared to the aquarium in Toba it's nothing too special.
