The Moselle valley (Moseltal) is largely in Rhineland-Palatinate. The source of the Moselle river is in the Vosges mountains of French Alsace and it then flows north before reaching Germany at Perl and forming the border with Rhineland-Palatinate and Luxembourg.

Understand

The Moselle River is bordered to the north by the Eifel and the to the south by the Hunsrück. It flows into the Rhine at Koblenz.

Get in

By plane

The main airports in the region are Luxembourg Airport, LUX IATA and Frankfurt Airport, FRA IATA, which is about an hour's drive away. Closer are Hahn (HHN IATA) airport and Bonn/Köln (CGN IATA) airport which do have a number of low-cost carriers.

By car

The A61 autobahn crosses the Moselle Valley west of Koblenz.

The main road (B49, B53) runs along side the river alternating between the left and right banks.

By train

The Moselstrecke [formerly dead link] runs from Koblenz to Bullay mainly on the left (North) bank of the Mosel before leaving the valley to return at Trier.

By boat

The KD and Gebrüder Kolb cruise ships stop at a number of points between Koblenz and Cochem.
