Colón is a nice and quiet city in Entre Ríos in Argentina.

Understand

Colón is in the eastern part of Entre Rios province, 324 km from Buenos Aires, on the western coast of the Uruguay River. It was founded in 1863 by Justo José de Urquiza, the first constitutional president of Argentina.

The weather is changeable according to the season, but it has warm springs and hot summers.

You can get there by bus or by car on national route No 14 and then route 135.

There are a lot of places to see and go in Colón. You can see several artisan centres, especially in Quirós Park. It´s a balcony to see the coastal landscape. On the Colón-San José road is the Molino de Forclas. It´s a historical relic. There is an important and beautiful square, Plaza San Martin, near 12 de Abril Street in the commercial city centre. Also you can visit the Palacio San Jose, former country residence of Gral Urquiza and now a national monument. There are museums too.

There is a good thermal water complex and nice beaches on the banks of Uruguay River to enjoy. If you like fishing you might go to the port or go to ”Balneario Norte” where you can do spinning, trolling, fly cast etc. Also there is a Golf Club.

For a present you can buy from several artisans knittings, ornaments of precious stones and a lot of wood objects. Also the typical “mates and bombillas.”

Eat

There is an excellent icecream parlor called "Heladería Bahillo", at the corner of 12 de Abril and Andrade. You can have an ice cream for as low as ARS 2.

The speciality food is the "alfajor entrerriano" also a dessert with nut and honey, cheeses, salamis, Italian pasta and Swiss chocolate. To drink there is the traditional beer and wine.

In Colón there are a lot of kinds of accommodation: cabins, hotels, camping sites and houses to rent.

  • From here you can visit the Palacio San José, an impressive palace in the middle of nowhere which belonged to Justo José de Urquiza, an Argentinian caudillo.
  • Also you must visit El Palmar, a breathtaking National Park practically covered with the Yatay, a palm variety. There's a camping where you can stay.
  • Cross the General Artigas Bridge just south of Colón to enter Paysandú, one of the most important Uruguayan cities.
  • 15 km from Colón you can go to San Jose, a little town near Uruguay River, with a thermal water complex.
