Leucate is a Mediterranean coastal town in the Aude region of Occitanie, southern France.

Leucate is a village not far off Perpignan and Narbonne and with a beach on the Méditerranean sea. Leucate comes from the Greek, Leukos, which means white, because in the old city, the castle and houses were built with white rock

Get in

To go to Leucate, you can take the car if you are not very far. If you come from the North of France for example, you can take the train, stop you in Perpignan and take the car to arrive to Leucate. But if you come from another country, you need to take airplane to Carcassone and take a car after.

Get around

Once in Leucate, you can take a bike because it's a little city and you can visit all the city on bike, if you have motivation, you can stay in the village and do what you want on foot, but if you want to visit village or city a little bit far from Leucate, you need a car.

See

If you go to Leucate, you can take your car and go to visit the African Reserve of Sigean, there a lot of African animals like lion, elephant... it's a great experience especially for kids and family, it's 20 min from Leucate.

If you want an activity near more, between the 28 April and 2 may, there are "Le mondial du vent" in La Franqui. It's a big event where you can see the world cup of kitesurf for example.

If you like hiking, you can visit the ruin of the Leucate Castle in the top of the cliff.

In Leucate and not far of it, there are a lot of things to do. For example, you can try extreme sports like kitesurf, windsurf or sand yacht. If you prefer, you can go to the beach which is absolutely beautiful.

  • 1 La Franqui Beach. This expansive beach is a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing and picnicking.

When you come back to your home, don't forget to buy a wine bottle of Leucate, it is excellent, and a box of oyster which is the speciality of the region.

Eat and Drink

In Leucate, there are a lot of restaurants and bars. You can go to "La Bodega el Flamingo" to taste tapas and regional products. It's open from 7:00 pm to 0:00 am and it closes Monday, the address is 115 avenue Jean Jaures. If you prefer the French kitchen, you can go to "Le Jardin de Filoche". It's open from 9:00 am just Mondays, the address is 4 avenue Jean Jaures. But if you prefer simple food, you can go to "Pizza Portofino", open from 6:00 pm all days except Monday. The address is 153 avenue Charles de Gaulle. And for groups between 18 and 25 years, you can go to "Biquet"; It's a bar open all day and it is on the beach, it's so funny if you go with your friends.

Sleep

If you go to Leucate, you need a place to sleep. So you can go to the hotel "Le Leukos", it has 4.1 stars, the price of a room is between €77 and €101 for one night, it is at 151 Avenue Charles De Gaulle, and this hotel is 1à min walk from the beach. Or if you prefer, you can sleep in the "19-21 un amour d'hotel"". It is noted 4,8 stars, this hotel has a bar, a swimming pool on the top and you can ask for a massage in your bedroom. The price of a room is €204 for a night and it is on the 19 avenue Francus Vals. It is in the city center.
