Aquileia is a comune in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy. Now a small town, it used to be one of the world's largest cities in the Late Antiquity. Archaeological Area and the Patriarchal Basilica of Aquileia form a UNESCO World Heritage site.

[edit]- 1 Aquileia Cathedral (Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta). A basilica erected by Patriarch Poppo in 1031, and later rebuilt in the Gothic style by Patriarch Marquard of Randeck. Contains a mosaic floor having 760 m2.
- 2 National Archaeological Museum (Museo Archeologico Nazionale), Via Roma, 1. Tu-Su 08:30-19:30; M closed. Contains a collection of ancient Roman mosaics, jewellery, gems, pottery and coins. €4; reduced €2 (A joint ticket to the archeological museum, the basilica belltower and basilica crypts costs €9).
- 3 Ruins of the Roman forum. The ruins are just a line of standing columns.
- 4 Museo Paleocristiano (Early Christian Museum). The museum contains some exhibits from the 4th to the 9th century AD.
