Palmeiras is a town of 9,000 people (2020) in Brazil. It is the main hub for Vale do Capão, which lies 22 km away. It is known for its ecotourism, being the host city of the Chapada Diamantina National Park.

The economy of Palmeiras has shifted from being based on the extraction of precious stones to tourism motivated by the region's natural attractions, making the service sector the most important in the municipality. Palmeiras also depends on many of its residents who work outside it and remit money to it. The agricultural sector is the second main productive activity in the municipality, especially tomato, coconut, banana, pineapple, passion fruit and cassava.

Temperatures range between 17 °C and 27 °C. In winter, the temperature reaches 11º and even less.

The rainy season is from November to February, and the average annual rainfall is 600-1200 millimeters of water. Despite being a region with a sub-humid climate, there is a high risk of drought in the municipality.

Cachoeira da Fumaça

The city has several tourist attractions such as Morro do Pai Inácio, Vale do Pati and the Cachoeira da Fumaça, the largest waterfall in Brazil. Its district, Caeté-Açu or Vale do Capão, is one of the main tourist routes in Chapada.
