Tok is an important is where two major highways intersect:

  • Highway 1. This highway terminates at Tok. From the southwest, the highway travels from Anchorage.
  • Highway 2 (Alaska Highway). From the northwest, the highway travels from Fairbanks. From the southeast, the highway travels from Whitehorse, Yukon via the border crossing at Port Alcan. In the Yukon, the highway is numbered Highway 1.

By bus

  • Interior Alaska Bus Line, +1-800-770-6652, . Year round service on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday between Tok and Anchorage, and Tok and Fairbanks. Trips between Tok and Anchorage stop along the way at locations including Glennallen and Palmer. Trips between Tok and Fairbanks stop along the way at locations including Delta Junction. Trips depart from Tok in the morning and return to Tok in afternoon. Therefore to travel involving switching between the routes at Tok requires multiple nights stay in Tok. Be sure to reserve in advance and allow some flexibility in your schedule as buses may be rescheduled based on demand. Travel time to Tok from Anchorage is 7.25 hours, from Palmer is 5.75 hours, from Glenallen is 2.75 hours, from Fairbanks is 4 hours, and from Delta Junction is 1.75 hours.

Get around

The "downtown" portion of Tok is spread along the highway. There are local taxis but no other public transit.

Frankly, Tok is not in one of the more scenic areas of the state. The region is mostly flat with young forests that are still recovering from many wildfires in the region.
