Africa > Central Africa > South Sudan > Equatoria > Bandingilo National Park

Bandingilo National Park (also spelled Badingilo National Park) is in the Equatoria region of South Sudan.

Understand

[edit]

The 10,000-square-kilometre (3,900 sq mi) park was established in 1992, although it remained a park in name only until 2022, when an agreement was signed between the South Sudanese government and the African Parks (AP) organisation whereby AP would develop and manage the park along with Boma National Park to the northeast. As of 2023, the park has no tourist infrastructure. However, despite decades of conflict in South Sudan, its wildlife has been surprisingly well preserved. Along with Boma National Park, Bandingilo hosts one of the largest land mammal migrations in Africa – even larger than that of the Serengeti wildebeest – as the antelope move between the parks with the seasons.

Fees and permits

[edit]

If Boma National Park is anything to go by for now, any visit to Bandingilo will be extremely expensive. As of 2023, an eight-day safari tour of Boma National Park costs US$90,000. One reason for the high price is the lack of infrastructure: safaris are conducted by helicopter.
