Woodland Park is a town of almost 8,000 people (2020) in South Central Colorado. Most travellers come to the town for camping and outdoor activities.

Woodland Park is surrounded by the 1,000,000-acre (400,000-ha) Pike National Forest.

Summers are warm, but much milder than summers at lower elevations, such as in Colorado Springs, Denver, or the plains to the east. Nights are cool, even chilly in summer.

By car: Take U.S. Highway 24 West past Manitou Springs.

  • Casino Shuttle (https://www.casinoshuttle.com/schedules-woodland-park-to-and-from-colorado-springs.asp). W-Su and some holidays, 11 trips a day. Leaves from 525 S 8th Street, Colorado Springs, (at north end of lot, behind Auto Zone), and arrives at 112 N Fairview Street, Woodland Park (from Hwy24, north on Fairview, go 1 block and turn into parking lot on the left). $25 round-trip, $17 one-way, by cash at aus or with credit card online.

  • Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center, 201 S Fairview St, +1 719 686-1820. daily 9AM–6PM. Small dinosaur museum with fossils. $13 for adults.
  • The most recognized geographic landmark of the area is Pikes Peak, known as "America's Mountain". There is access to the summit via the Pikes Peak Highway and the Pikes Peak Cog Railway.
