The noisy junction between MacArthur Highway and Villarica Road
Map

Marilao is a municipality in Bulacan. Together with nearby Meycauayan, they form a large suburban area north of Metro Manila.

Understand

[edit]

Marilao occupies over 34 km2 (13 sq mi) of land area, but they are nearly similar in size as neighboring Meycauayan. It is largely suburban in character, but still has some paddy fields.

The low-lying parts of this municipality are notorious for flooding during the rainy season. MacArthur Highway near SM City Marilao can be easily flooded after heavy rain, especially when worsened by high tide.

Get in

[edit]

By jeepney

[edit]

MacArthur Highway has a lot of jeepneys running north or south.

By bus

[edit]

City buses stop at Marilao Exit.

By train

[edit]

There are no trains serving Marilao'. The north main line to San Fernando (La Union) closed in the late 1980s, save for a section to the rolling stock maintenance depot in Caloocan, and the tracks torn up, but part of the line is being reconstructed from 2018 as the modern Manila-Clark Railway, with electric trains to run up to 160 km/h (99 mph). The old station is a ruin near Villarica Road, while the new station is to be at the front of SM City Marilao.
