Fuerte Olimpo is a town in Western Paraguay. The capital of Alto Paraguay department, it's one of the most picturesque riverside ports along the river Paraguay with beautiful hills rising behing it, an old spanish fort dating back to 1792, and an attractive cathedral of María Auxiliadora. All this give a pleasant, airy feel to the town.

By bus
Stel Turismo runs two-weekly buses from Asunción, the bus ticket cost ₲165,000. The bus leaves Asunción at 7:00PM and travelling time vary between 15-24 hr according to road conditions.
By car
Fuerte Olimpo is 771 km (479 mi) by road from Asunción. You travel along the Transchaco highway for 415 km (258 mi) up to Cruce Los Pioneros, then an unpaved route for 356 km (221 mi). Travelling time by car should be between 12-15 hr, depending on road conditions. The unpaved road may be closed to traffic when there is heavy rainfall.
By boat
A pleasant, though slow, way to arrive to Fuerte Olimpo is aboard the Aquidabán boat from Concepción. The boat travels upriver to Bahia Negra once a week, and again when travelling downriver the following day. Port call days vary so check before with the port authorities for the latest schedules.
