By train

Ube is served by three different JR Lines, the Sanyo Main Line, the Ube Line, and the Onoda Line. By Shinkansen, from anywhere east (Hiroshima to Tokyo) get of at Shin-Yamaguchi Station. From there, you can transfer to either the Sanyo Line or the Ube Line. From Kyushu, depending on the time and your destination within Ube, Shin-Shimonoseki, Asa, and Shin-Yamaguchi are all viable options. The Onoda Line can be accessed from the Ube Line by transferring at Ubeshinkawa Station (typically the best option) or at Onoda Station on the Sanyo Main Line.

Most of the tourist sites are located along the Ube Line near Tokiwa Station and UbeShinkawa Station.
