Nōgata (直方) is a city of 59,000 people (2011) in Fukuoka.

[edit]It is about 30 km southwest of the center of Kitakyushu and about 50 km northeast of Fukuoka.
The city has train services on the Chikuho Main Line operated by JR Kyushu and Heisei Chikuho Railway Ita Line. Trains stop at Nōgata Station. It is also the terminus of the Chikuho Electric Railroad Line. The Coto Coto Train touristic service stops here.
Nishitetsu Bus and JR Kyushu Bus operate routes to the city and out of the city.

[edit]- Nishitetsu Bus Chikuho operates most of the routes in Nogata City. There are routes to various parts of Nogata City, routes connecting Miyawaka City, Kurate Town, Onga Town, Nakama City, and Munakata City, and express buses connecting Nogata City and Kurosaki (Yahatanishi Ward, Kitakyushu City). It also operates the line connecting Aeon Mall Nogata and Kurosaki, which is near the border with Kitakyushu City at the northern end of Nogata City.
- Nogata City Community Bus "Nanohana-kun" operates five routes that pass through areas without railway lines, Nishitetsu buses, and JR Kyushu buses in Nogata City.

[edit]- Nōgata Coal Memorial Museum provides visitors with the history of coal mines in the area. Its exhibits include a steam locomotive, the machines for digging and extracting coal, coal miner's clothes, and other memorabilia. Closed Mondays. It is next to Taga Park
- Ongagawa Riverside Park: In spring, it features blooms of yellow flowers, and in April, a colorful Tulip Festival is held. About 200,000 people visit the festival for the period. The park is also a site where a fireworks show is held each year.

[edit]- Mt. Fukuchi-The highest mountain in Nogata city. It is crowded with many climbers during the mountaineering season.
- Shakudake-One of the mountains that make up the Mt. Fukuchi mountain range, climbing from the Ryuokyo at the foot of the mountain.

[edit]- Furumachi Shopping Street is the largest shopping street in the city. It is nicknamed "Furumachi Dori". There is also a long-established store that has been formed along the route of the old Nagasaki Highway and has continued since the Edo period.
- Meiji-cho shopping district - Nōgata Station before the shopping street. It was created after the opening of Nogata Station at the end of the Meiji era. The Nogata City Tourism Promotion Association is located at the entrance of the shopping district in front of the station.
- Tonomachi Shopping Street - A shopping street that continues to the south of Furumachi Shopping Street. Only a part of the end is this shopping street. It is nicknamed "Tonomachi Dori". The image is unified with the Furumachi shopping district, such as the logo mark.
- Susakicho Shopping Street - A shopping street that connects JR Nogata Station to Chikuho Nogata Station.
