Culloden is a small Scottish village, close to Inverness in the Highlands region, and the site of the Battle of Culloden in 1746, scene of the final defeat of the Jacobite Rebellion and the dashing of Bonny Prince Charlie's hopes to supplant King George II by restoring the Stuart Dynasty to the thrones of Scotland and England.

Culloden is off the B9006, some 5 miles east of Inverness.

By car

Car access is probably the easiest way to reach the battlefield (parking available). There are some alternatives however...

The Cullodon Visitor Centre [] (administered by the National Trust for Scotland) is a major attraction for visitors to Inverness. The last major Scottish battle took place in Culloden with a devastating defeat of the Jacobites, led by Bonnie Prince Charlie, by the government forces. The battle had widereaching consequences for highland life. The people weren't allowed to wear their tartans, playing bagpipe was prohibited by law and the clan system was destroyed. You can visit the battlefield for free or take a look into the Visitor Centre for information of the battle and a video presentation. £11.
