At 961.6 kilometers, the Federal Motorway 7 (BAB 7 or A 7) is the longest German federal motorway and also the longest continuous national motorway in Europe. It runs from north to south from the Danish border in Ellund through the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Hesse, then switches back and forth several times between Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg and ends at the Austrian border in the border tunnel near Füssen. In Austria we continue on the state road B 179 (Fernpassstraße} over the Fernpass.

The description of the route is from north to south (direction south =), the kilometer values ​​(approximate information only) are based on the official information from south to north, the regions are not exactly located.

The following sections are assigned to a European route:

  • Between Ellund and Biebelried motorway junction on the E 45
  • Between the Biebelried motorway junction and the Memmingen motorway junction on the E 43
  • Between the Memmingen–Füssen motorway junction on the E 532

We continue in Denmark on the E 45 to Aabenraa.
