| Description |
Balkans Rail Trip, Autumn 2013 - Day Ten Approximately four weeks before my trip to the Balkans in September and October 2013, I learned about the closure of Tiranë station. With the network receiving no investment, the news that the station was to be relocated was some surprise. Regular comments made by visitors is that the system would be so easy to close down altogether due to its frail state. As a result trains, are terminating at the junction station of Vorë and a replacement bus is laid on. On 2 October I made a visit to the capital and saw for myself that the station has definitely gone a month after it "closed" in early September 2013. Quite when the new station will reopen has not been announced. Suggestions are in November and will be several kilometres away from the old station, i.e. away from the city centre. |
