Almodóvar del Río es un municipio español de la provincia de Córdoba, Andalucía, ubicado en la comarca de la Vega del Guadalquivir. En el año 2005 contaba con 7.420 habitantes. Su extensión superficial es de 174 km² y tiene una densidad de 42,6 hab/km². Sus coordenadas geográficas son 37º 48' N, 5º 01' O. Se encuentra situada a una altitud de 121 metros y a 22 kilómetros de la capital de provincia, Córdoba. Pertenece al partido judicial de Posadas y forma parte de la Mancomunidad de la Vega del Guadalquivir cordobés. Castillo de almodovar: Fortaleza de origen musulmán en la localidad de Almodóvar del Río, provincia de Córdoba. Posteriormente fue castro romano y la edificación actual tiene definitivamente origen árabe, del año 760. Durante la Edad Media fue sometido a diferentes reformas y reconstrucciones, la más importante en 1902, costeada por el Conde de Torralva.
