In zijn boek „Aruba" schrijft dr Johan Hartog over Savaneta onder meer, dat Pastoor de Vries het eerste kerkje stichtte. Het huis met grond erbij, kostte in totaal....’ 16,-. Het kerkgebouw(tje) deed tevens dienst als schooltje. In 1899 werd besloten een zelfstandige parochie te stichten en een kerk te bouwen. Op 13 december 1900 werd het kerkje toegewijd aan het Heilig Hart. Kapelaan Helling van Santa Cruz werd eerste pastoor. (Uit:Amigoe, 8 september 1959) Voor parochie Savaneta werd in 1959 een nieuwe grotere kerkgebouw ingewijd.
