Summary

Description

Conservatory in Garfield Park in Chicago (1907). William Le Baron Jenney designed a conservatory for the park in his original plan, as he did with the other two West Side parks. The West Side Commission later determined that it would be wiser to instead have one large conservatory, which they planned for Garfield Park. In collaboration with Schmidt, Garden & Martin, Jens Jensen designed the new structure, which may have been the largest conservatory in the country. The originally design called for two main rooms, a Palm Room and a Fern Room. The Fern Room was intricately detailed with Prairie School elements, such as limestone outcroppings. The entrance to the Fern Room is descorated with replicas of Lorado Taft statues from the 1893 World's Fair.

This is an image of a place or building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States of America. Its reference number is 93000837.
