Description
English: This placard on the pedestrianized river front in Santa Cruz de Mompox, Colombia, gives an extract from the poem "La lucha de la vida" by black Colombian nineteenth-century poet Candelario Obeso Hernández. It is a paradoxical poem about the majesty of the river and the ecological and human depredation brought by the steam-boat river trade (and its decline).
