Summary
DescriptionToronto's portlands, 1932, showing the Keating Channel, Turning Basin, and Coatsworth Cut.jpg
When the polluted marsh known as Ashbridges' March was filled with landfill, three sections were dredged instead for navigation.
In the west the Keating Channel and the Turning Basin were dredged to a depth suitable for industrial navigation. At the east end of the marsh a new breach in the barrier sandbar was breached, known as the Coatsworth Cut, enabling navigation to a dredged rump, now known as Ashbridges' Bay. Ashbridges' Bay and the Coatsworth Cut are only used by pleasure craft.
