Summary

Description
English: A picture of Western Valley Tomb No.23 or WV23. This is the royal tomb of pharaoh Ay, the penultimate or second last ruler of the 18th dynasty of Egypt. He succeeded Tutankhamun and ruled Egypt for at least 4 years according to Nakhtmin's stela which dates to Year 4 of this king's reign. Ay was an elderly state official when he assumed the throne: he had previously served under Akhenaten, Neferneferuaten and Tutankhamun. Ay also enjoyed the privilege of having a well decorated rock cut tomb constructed for himself at Amarna during Akhenaten's reign.
