Summary

Description This very old birch bark canoe was made by Native Americans some time between 1720 and 1780 as determined by isotope dating. This may be the oldest such canoe in existence. It is on display at the local Pejebscot Historical Society here in Brunswick, Maine. The Wabanaki Confederation comprised a number of sub groups and extended over all of Maine into Canada and into New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
