The Lower Peninsula is an area of Michigan, containing most of the state's population and the majority of its territory.

Understand[edit]

The Lower Peninsula ranges from a dense urban metropolis in the southeast to sparsely populated forest regions in the north. It is separated from the Upper Peninsula by the Straits of Mackinac and adjoining waters of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron which straddle it to the west and east, respectively. It borders with Indiana and Ohio in the south, and Ontario to the southeast. The region is not usually discussed as a whole, except in distinction to the "U.P." (and is almost never referred to as the "L.P.").

Regions[edit]

This region article is an extra-hierarchical region, describing a region that does not fit into the hierarchy Wikivoyage uses to organise most articles. These extra articles usually provide only basic information and links to articles in the hierarchy. This article can be expanded if the information is specific to the page; otherwise new text should generally go in the appropriate region or city article.
