Nalgonda is a city in Telangana state in Southern India.

  • Nagarjuna Sagar a good place to hang out. This holds the record of largest rock built dam in the world. Nagarjuna konda, a "must see" island inside the reservoir, museum of Buddhist and ancient historical articles. Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is one of the largest dams built in Asia. It is in Nalgonda district. It is built on the Krishna River between Guntur and Nalgonda districts. It is one of the earliest hydro-electric projects of India. Nagarjunasagar dam, which was completed in 1966, is 124 metres high and 1 km long, and has 26 crest gates. Located at a distance of 150 km from Hyderabad, Nagarjunasagar is an important irrigation dam on river Krishna. This is the tallest and biggest masonry dam in the world. It creates the third largest man-made lake in the world.

Apart from this, remains of the Buddhist civilization dating back to the 3rd century A.D, are seen on an island called Nagarjunakonda located in the midst of the reservoir. These relics of Buddhist civilization found during excavations unveiled a great Mahachaitya, the most sacred of the stupas. An inscription in Brahmi characters states that the sacred relics of Lord Buddha lie within the Mahachaitya.

  • Pochampally, initially famous for bhudan-udyam, now turned as textile landmark, with a varieties of silk sarees with its name.
  • Miryalaguda, trade center of Nalgonda district, having more than 200 rice mills, and many cement industries around it. The famous janapahad dargah is very nearer to Miryalaguda.
  • Akkampally balancing reservoir, now becoming a tourist attraction, a place from where water to Hyderabad city are supplied.

  • Bhongir (Bhuvanagiri). Bhuvangir Konda or Bhuvanagiri Fort around 47 km from city of Hyderabad on the outskirts moving towards Warangal via Uppal, is a huge rock fort on very smooth rock. At the foot of the hill is Bhongir bus stop. It is a marvelous experience to climb the fort and needs great skill and balance at few places. Totally an awesome place for trekkers and rock climbers.
