Sainte-Angèle-de-Prémont is a parish municipality of the Maskinongé Region (MRC de Maskinongé), in Basse-Mauricie, in Quebec.

History

A granite monument was erected on a plinth in the village, evoking the memory of the founding families of the municipality: Arsenault, Baril, Beauregard, Bélanger, Bergeron, Branchaud, Carle, Dupuis, Lacoursière, Lambert, Leblanc, Lessard, Pichette, Plante, St-Onge and St-Yves.

Geography

The village of Sainte-Angèle-de-Prémont is built around the Canadian Pacific Railway and around the intersection of rue Lupien (route 350) and rang Paul Lemay. Outside the village, but close by, the residences are mostly spread along Rang Waterloo, Rue Lupien and Rang Paul Lemay. Hamlets have developed around Lac Rond (northwest of the village), Lac Lambert, Lac Driver and Lac Diane.

The municipal territory straddles the plain of the St. Lawrence and the Laurentians. It is crossed by the Petite rivière du Loup (northern part) and Chacoura river (southwestern part), which are tributaries of the rivière du Loup. The northwest part of the municipal territory is mostly wooded; the south-eastern part is mainly agricultural.

Economy

The economy of Sainte-Angèle-de-Prémont is mainly focused on agriculture, forestry and resort. In Sainte-Angèle-de-Prémont, there are three sand pits. In addition, Les Aliments Prémont Foods inc (route Lupien) is a meat processor.

The village of Sainte-Angèle-de-Prémont is accessible by road, snowmobile and all-terrain vehicles.

By car

  • From Montreal (126 km (78 mi), 1 hr 26 min). Take Highway 40 (north shore) eastbound, to Louiseville; take Chemin Caron (northbound); take route 138 (eastbound) and cross the village of Louiseville; take Rang Barthélémy (northbound) to the village of Sainte-Angèle-de-Prémont.
  • From Quebec (city) (180 km (110 mi), 1 hr 55 min). Take Highway 40 (westbound), to Louiseville; take route 349 (northbound); take Rang Barthélémy (northbound) to the village of Sainte-Angèle-de-Prémont.
