Seropédica is a municipality of Baixada Fluminense, in the region of Grande Rio.

Before 1995, the current municipality of Seropédica was a district of the municipality of Itaguaí. Therefore, even after its emancipation, Seropédica continues having strong relations with the municipality from which it originated, just as all municipalities of the metropolitan agglomeration of Rio de Janeiro that were dismembered from other municipalities in the Grande Rio area during the 1990s.

In Seropédica is located the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro - UFRRJ), and the municipality is crossed by the BR-116 highway, more accurately, by the stretch between Rio and São Paulo (Rodovia Presidente Dutra, Via Dutra, or simply Rodovia Rio-São Paulo).

In the Central Zone of the state capital, there are urban bus lines that go to the municipality of Seropédica. Buses to Seropédica depart from Terminal Américo Fontenelle, in Gamboa, in the region of Central do Brasil.

The main road access to Seropédica for those coming from Rio Central Zone are the BR-116 highway (Via Dutra) and the Old Rio-São Paulo highway (Antiga Estrada Rio-São Paulo).

It is a wide and beautiful landscape park, with gardens, artificial lakes, tree masses composed of native species, groups of palm trees, and bushes added to the neo-colonial pavilions.
