Slănic (occasionally Slănic Prahova) is a town in Muntenia.

[edit]Located about 100 km north of Bucharest in the hilly area near the Carpathian mountains, Slănic is a spa town known for its salt mines and lakes.

[edit]There are frequent minibuses from Ploieşti (40 minutes - one hour travel time) and several daily buses from Bucharest (two hours and half); some of their schedules are available on autogari.ro
By train
[edit]Slanic is reached by a railway, but trains can't actually enter the town because of a damaged bridge; instead they stop about 10 km away in Poiana Slănic (which is linked with Slănic itself by minibus) . There are three or four commuter trains daily from Ploieşti (50 minutes travel time); timetables are available on the rail operator CFR website [dead link].

[edit]- 1 Salina Veche (The old salt mine). Tuesday to Sunday 9AM-3PM. Impressively large galleries of the old salt mines with a museum, a sort of art gallery, playgrounds for children, medical treatment areas etc. 14 lei adults, 7 lei children.
