Past events/Sochi 2014: This event has concluded and is no longer open to the public. The next Olympic Winter Games were the Wikivoyage:Past_events/Pyeongchang 2018 Games in South Korea.

The Games of the XXII Winter Olympiad, the Winter Olympic Games of 2014, were based in Sochi in Russia – in Adler and Krasnaya Polyana to be more specific. The official 16 days of the games was 7-23 February 2014, although some events started before the official opening ceremonies.

The games were followed two weeks later by the Winter Paralympic Games, 7-18 Mar 2014. Most of the paralympic events were held in the same Olympic venues.

2014 Sochi Olympic Games Committee has prepared an official application that contains all the required information on the venues, the torch relay, competition information and getting around from one cluster to the other. You can download it from Apple Appstore, Google Play and Windows Store for your smartphone and tablet.

Please be aware that along with the ticket you will need to have a spectator pass.

General information about travelling to Sochi is in the Sochi article. All types of transportation, including trains, buses, air flights, and cruise ships, will be adding services during the Olympic period to meet the expected heavy demand.

By rail

The rail network links the Olympic Park, Adler, Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana to connect with the mountain venues. Allow 50 minutes for getting to the Olympic Park from Sochi, and 80 minutes to Krasnaya Polyana.

By road

During the Olympics, special parking and driving restrictions will be in place around most Olympic areas. Penalties for illegal parking will be increased dramatically during the Olympics.

By bus

Olympic and Paralympic ticket holders can use free bus and train services to get to the venues from the main districts in Sochi.

Olympic park in the Coastal cluster includes following venues:

Competitive venues

  • 1 Fisht Olympic Stadium. 40,000 seats, named after the 2,867m high mountain Fisht. Venue for opening and closing ceremonies, medal ceremonies. Later it will be used as a football stadium for the 2018 World Cup.
  • 2 Shayba Arena. 7,000 seats. The Arena can be dismantled after the games and re-erected elsewhere.
  • 3 Bolshoy Ice Dome. Seats 12,000 spectators
  • 4 Ice Cube Curling center.
  • 5 Iceberg Skating Palace. multi-functional hall with 3,000 seats can be moved to another location.
  • 6 Adler Arena. After the games, the Arena will be moved to another city and serve as exhibition hall.

  • 10 Sanki Sliding Center.

The Mountain Cluster will include Biathlon and Ski Complexes, a Bobsleigh Track, a Ski Center, a Ski Jump Complex, as well as a Snowboard Park and Freestyle Center.
