Sveagruva is a coal mining settlement in on the south coast of the main island of Spitsbergen on Svalbard, with a population of about 200.

Get in[edit]

Sveagruva is a company town and not really set up to handle visitors. The tiny airstrip here only serves the company's charters, and cruise ships are not welcome. Most of the very, very few tourists who make it this far trek from Longyearbyen, a solid 3-day hike each way across some demanding terrain.

Get around[edit]

There is a canteen on site for the miners, which may serve visitors if they ask nicely.

There are no public accommodations, although you may receive permission to camp in the sheds and use the bathing facilities.
