Germany regions map

It's really great to see new user doing such a great effort with the mapping, and the new map Germany regions map looks nice! - though, I'm not too fond of the color scheme, maybe look here for some inspiration on some different colours, my main concerns is with Rheinland-Pfalz and Baden-Württemberg being very dark. Especially if you plan on adding more details later as you wrote in the summary. More importantly, we have a (maybe unwritten) standard of making the whole regions the same colour... like North, East, West etc, as it's done on the popular United States map. If you want to distinguish the Bundesländer a bit, then maybe the approach of our Florida map could provide some inspiration. Thanks for the compliments and suggestions. Yea, I found out quick red was a bad color when I started putting in roads! I started using some of the color palettes from older (and better) maps, but 16 colors is too many. But there are no regional breakdowns of Germany besides just the Bundesländer (surprising, since it's such a big country). That's what I've been mulling over the past few days, I think Wikivoyage is actually missing a level in the hierarchy there. I think my plan of attack now is to actually at least outline those regional articles to make the breakdown of Germany more gentle. (Off topic, but just wanted to mention your work on Copenhagen is awesome. Really helped me out when I visited a couple weeks ago). (WT-en) hokiesvt 17:28, 17 March 2009 (EDT)

Aw, thanks! :) Now regarding the map, If you want any more suggestions, I think it would be cool if you could add the ICE network - basically like the lines drawn up here. Rails display

I really like the way you represented the rail lines here! I will have to try that in the future. It should be easier to create than the node-stroked lines I (and others) have been using, and looks cleaner anyway. --(WT-en) Peter ^Talk 20:53, 21 March 2009 (EDT)

Jup, i've been doing the same thing on region maps, for a while, like on my Sakhalin map and Copenhagen districts map, maybe we should suggest this for a standard like red highways, and yellow secondary roads? --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) ^Talk 21:07, 21 March 2009 (EDT)

Uploading images

Hi, Hokiesvt. You've done some great map work. I just wanted to remind you to fill out all of the fields in the Imagecredit template when you upload a file. The location field, for example, categorizes our images by location -- so an image like wts:Image:Nuremberg Altstadt.svg should have "location=Nürnberg" so that it appears in wts:Category:Nürnberg.

I would also recommend linking from the SVG versions to any derived PNG versions (like I did with wts:Image:Map of Florida Regions with Cities.svg, as an example). Interlinking makes it much easier to find the right version of an image to use.

Thought I was filling out those locations... musta slipped up on that one. Thanks for the recommendations on documentation of the images; I definitely see how that can help, so I'll go back and get that looking better. Düsseldorf is on the wrong site of the Germany map!

Mate, you are risking tar and feathers if you put Düsseldorf on the same Rhine river site as Cologne! I don't know how to correct it but Düsseldorf is on the right side of the Rhine and takes pride to be opposite of Cologne. Please adapt the map and otherwise have fun here. Wow, yes, I definitely know that is a hot topic. Moved and updated. I had created a modified version with some major road/rail connections here where Düsseldorf was moved to the correct side, but that never got translated to the plain map. (WT-en) hokiesvt 16:26, 20 April 2009 (EDT)

Maps for the main regions of Germany

I have made regional maps for Northern Germany, Western Germany etc, identifying the constituent states, for the regional articles, and am busy uploading them, but the server is giving too much hassle today, and I have to go out later. I plan to upload the svgs later when I remember how to do it. Meanwhile, if there are any errors on the maps that are up, please let me know.
