Adding news to Travel news

[edit]

To add a news item to Travel news, please use Template:Newsitem. The syntax is as follows:

News Headline

Please choose a snappy headline of around 5 words maximum. Capitalize like a news headline (all nouns, pronouns and verbs, and all other words of four or more letters), do not add punctuation at the end.

Here is an example of what to enter:

And this is how it looks after you save:

Note that the third parameter, the description, will appear when the template is transcluded on Travel news.

Adding news to Main Page

[edit]

Here are the steps to follow for adding a Travel news item onto the Main Page. Not all news items need to be posted there, priority should be given to important, unexpected or urgent events affecting travel. Please also cut down the item to only 2-3 sentences.

<!-- Please see Project:How to add travel news for help on adding news items here. -->

style="height:100%;border:1px solid #de8ca7;background-color:#fcf0f4;" valign="top" |
<!-- Please see Project:How to add travel news for help on adding news items here. -->
valign="top" style="padding:7px 7px 7px 7px;background-color:#fcf0f4;" |
<div style="margin:0;background:#f7d4e0;font-family:sans-serif;font-size:120%;font-weight:bold;border:1px solid #de8ca7;text-align:left;color:#000;padding-left:0.4em;padding-top:0.2em;padding-bottom:0.2em;">Travel alerts</div>
newsitem1
newsitem2
newsitem3
...
valign="top" style="padding:7px 7px 7px 7px;background-color:#fcf0f4;" |
<div style="margin:0;background:#f7d4e0;font-family:sans-serif;font-size:120%;font-weight:bold;border:1px solid #de8ca7;text-align:left;color:#000;padding-left:0.4em;padding-top:0.2em;padding-bottom:0.2em;">Current and upcoming events</div>
newsitem4
newsitem5
newsitem6
...

 • Determine whether your item fits better into the "Travel alerts" section or the "Current and upcoming events" section. Add it immediately above the first item in that section and, if there are more than nine items in the section, remove the bottom item (also remove any bottom items that are out-of-date, regardless of whether there are nine items yet). The end result should look like this, if you added a "Current and upcoming event":
<!-- Please see Project:How to add travel news for help on adding news items here. -->

style="height:100%;border:1px solid #de8ca7;background-color:#fcf0f4;" valign="top" |

<div style="margin:0;background:#f7d4e0;font-family:sans-serif;font-size:120%;font-weight:bold;border:1px solid #de8ca7;text-align:left;color:#000;padding-left:0.4em;padding-top:0.2em;padding-bottom:0.2em;">Travel alerts</div>
newsitem1
newsitem2
newsitem3
...

<div style="margin:0;background:#f7d4e0;font-family:sans-serif;font-size:120%;font-weight:bold;border:1px solid #de8ca7;text-align:left;color:#000;padding-left:0.4em;padding-top:0.2em;padding-bottom:0.2em;">Current and upcoming events</div>
Your-new-item
newsitem4
newsitem5
newsitem6
...

 • Hit Save, then copy your news item into the Travel news page as well. You're done!
