Wikivoyage:Information boxes

Often a Wikivoyage article will need to explain something about an attraction that doesn't quite fit into the usual one-paragraph-per-attraction format: typical examples include the history of a local attraction, a brief biography of a prominent local person, an overview of architectural history, and so on. For information like this, use an information box that will align itself to the right side of the page. They'll take up 50% of the page width and text should flow around them automatically.

Using infoboxes

Information boxes are created with the Infobox template. To use the template, just enter this:

{{infobox|title|content}}

Here title is the bolded headline and content is the actual content of the box. The content can include multiple paragraphs and any Wiki markup, just be sure to mark where it ends with }}.

Note that the template should be placed at the front of the article section, so the actual article content can flow around the box.

To change the alignment, just enter this:

{{infobox|title|content|align=}}

Add the alignment after the align= parameter, but by default, it will align to the right.

How not to use infoboxes

Try not to go overboard with infoboxes: we are not trying to replace Wikipedia here. As always, the infobox should aim to educate travellers with what they need to know, which probably does not include the primary school grades of Person X or the name of the associate vice president of marketing for Festival Y.
