Wikivoyage:Links to DMOZ

From Wikivoyage

DMOZ was closed on March 14, 2017 and DMOZ support in the RelatedSites extension was removed from MediaWiki.

Wikivoyage's goals include providing a complete and reliable guide for both on-line and off-line use by travelers.

However, we don't want to clutter our guides with links to every Web site related to a subject. We explicitly have forming a Web directory as a non-goal.

In order to provide service to those travelers seeking lots of Web links, we have a feature to add TwinPages links to DMOZ topics on the same subject. Just as our links to Wikipedia provide an encyclopedic perspective on a destination, links to DMOZ provide a Web-directory perspective on the same destination.

Order

[edit]

Links to DMOZ should appear after the body text of the article, after any links to other language versions of Wikivoyage, and after links to Wikipedia.

Format

[edit]

Links do not appear within text of the article but an "Other Sites" box on the left hand side of the page, together with any Wikipedia links.

In order to create such a link you type

[[DMOZ:article]]

where "article" is the path minus the base URL. So, for example, to link to http://www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Travel/Specialty_Travel/Cruises, type

[[DMOZ:Recreation/Travel/Specialty_Travel/Cruises/]]
