Meavy is a small village in Dartmoor, in the English county of Devon. The village sits within the Dartmoor National Park.

The River Meavy flows from Burrator Reservoir, through the small villages of Meavy and Shaugh Prior through the empty and quiet moor towards Plymouth and Plymouth Sound.

In 2010, Meavy was one of the filming locations for the Steven Spielberg film War Horse.

The Meavy Oak in front of the church
  • Meavy Oak (Royal Oak) (on the green in front of the Royal Oak Pub). This tree is said to have been planted during the reign of King John. Known locally as the Royal Oak as it is thought to be, one of many, trees that King Charles hid in while fleeing from Oliver Cromwell’s men.
  • The parish church of St Peter is at least partly Norman with additions of the 13th and 15th centuries. There is an altarpiece from 1884 by J.D. Sedding and a foliated churchyard cross.
