Sorsogon City is a port town in Sorsogon Province. There is little of interest here for travellers but this town may serve as a stop or a base for exploring beautiful Sorsogon province.

Understand[edit]

The little tourism infratrcture that Sorsogon has, caters to domestic tourists. Despite issues of social inequality and ongoing decline in the fishing industry, the city is growing and still seems vibrant, with friendly locals. There is much less crime here than Manila. Further south and travellers have a hard time finding reliable transport, uncontaminated water and food.

Get in[edit]

  • Generally UV Express minivans or a bus are the main ways to get in from Legazpi City.
  • There are jeepneys and buses going to and from Matnog Port (ferry port for Samar island).
  • 1 SITEX (Sorsogon Integrated Terminal Exchange), Sorsogon City Coastal Road. 5AM–9:30PM.
  • 2 Sorsogon City Grand Terminal Bus Stop, Pan-Philippine Highway (located at SM City Sorsogon). Open 24 hours.

Get around[edit]

Trikes are the main mode of transport within the city. ₱20 during the day and up to ₱40 later at night. Hiring a jeepney for a day is nice for beach trips. Santa Magdalena is ₱3500 for the day, Irosin hot springs ₱2500, Bacon beach ₱1500.

Eat[edit]

Casa Dominga may be the best restaurant in town. A bit on the outskirts but excellent. Magno Grill is the most trendy, but perhaps it tries too hard, and the WiFi never works. Una Pizzeria across from Fernando's Hotel is good. You can try the sushi place next door, which has a good reputation.

  • 1 Nono's Bakery - Yema Buko Pie, Market Site, Sirangan. 4AM–8PM. A must-visit bakeshop in Sorsogon if you’re a fond of cakes and pastries. Try their Yema Buko Pie, it’s one of the best. It’s really appetizing and I’m sure you’ll love it too.
  • 2 McDonald's Sorsogon, Pan-Philippine Highway. 7AM–10PM.
  • 3 Jane's Fastfood, Rizal Street. 7AM–7PM.
  • 4 Tap Street Restaurant, 212 J.Reyes Street. 8AM–10PM.

Drink[edit]

  • 1 Papa Jake's, Sorsogon Pier. 7AM–10PM.
  • 2 The Chancery Coffee Shop, Bookstore & Religious Store, Magsaysay Avenue. 8AM–8:30PM. Right beside the Fatima Church is this well decorated and good coffee shop in town. The price is affordable, and you have a good venue to chat and talk small or big talk topics.
They are also selling supported locally produced products on display.
  • 3 ELLezzii Cafe, 399 Sesbreno Street. 10AM–10PM.
