Understand

[edit]

This region is composed by four administrative comarques . Inland, we find the Terra Alta and the Ribera d'Ebre, and at the coast Baix Ebre and Montsià.

The Terres de l'Ebre offer a wide variety of landscapes (Natural Park of Delta de l’Ebre, Natural Park of Ports, Ebre river, coast, plain and mountain. All those possibilities, together with a typical Mediterranean weather, make of Terres de l'Ebre a spot to discover and lowly exploited by the big touristic mass.

[edit]

One of the spots more appreciated by tourists are the areas of "coast and sea" and we can find here one of the more impressive natural spectacles of Terres de l'Ebre where Ebre waters fight with Mediterranean waters at the mouth of the river, giving as a result large sand beaches with very low visitor density, where we can have a calm and intimacy hard to find elsewhere. Very close to those beaches is the Natural Park of Delta de l'Ebre, the biggest humid area of Catalonia, with a surface of 320 km2.

Another dimension of Terres de l'Ebre is the mountain and plain. We can observe here the traditional economic legacy in this land, the primary sector, with vineyards, fruit trees and olive trees. We must point out the millennial olive trees in Montsia, as the name indicates, those trees accompany several generations of inhabitants since many years. Don't forget the Natural Park of Ports, the second natural park with more extension of Catalonia, with a great variety of flora and fauna.

Culture

It's also outstanding the identity culture, which possibly originated because different civilizations grounded in the Iberian peninsula arrived to this area guided by the river Ebre. The civilizations passing Terres de l'Ebre left many elements as the remarkable rock paintings of Ulldecona and the Perelló, declared World Heritage by UNESCO.

The "Terres de l'Ebre" Museum has created the network "Ebre Natura & Cultura", including several museums and heritage interpretation facilities, which articulates the local heritage and nature resources.
