Ústí nad Orlicí District borders Poland in the north. In lies mostly in the historical land of Bohemia, but the eastern edge lies in Moravia.

The landscape is very rugged and varied. While in the west there are plains, in the east there is mountainous terrain.

All above mentioned towns are connected to the rail net. Česká Třebová, Ústí nad Orlicí, Brandýs nad Orlicí and Choceň lie on the main corridor line connecting Prague, Brno, Wienna and Ostrava. However, most modern and fast IC and EC towns stop in Česká Třebová only. In Ústí nad Orlicí and Choceň most of express trains(rychlík) stop. In Ústí nad Orlicí you can switch to trains going further to Letohrad. In Choceň you change for Vysoké Mýto and Litomyšl railway.
