Tynemouth is in Tyne and Wear. This travel guide also covers North Shields and Cullercoats.
Understand
The modern town of Tynemouth includes the villages of Cullercoats and North Shields and has a combined population of 67,500. However there are still separate centres in these communities.
It is worth noting that the Tyneside coast can sometimes be covered in fog on days when Newcastle is in sunshine, so it is worth checking the weather before visiting on a warm summer day.
Get in
By Metro
Three stations serve the area.
By ferry
The Sheilds passenger ferry crosses the Tyne to connect North Shields with South Shields in South Tyneside every thirty minutes. Bicycles are taken.
North Shields is served by an overnight car and passenger ferry from IJmuiden near Amsterdam.

The area is well served by buses, and the metro can also be used to travel between the centres.
