Small and largely undeveloped, Ko Lon (เกาะโหลน) is a tranquil island get-a-way just off the shores of Phuket. It has lovely hilly inlands and flat beach sides lined with coconut palms.

Get in

[edit]

Ko Lon is about 1.5km from either the Chalong Pier or Panwa Bali. The main way in is by longtail boats and if you have a booking at one of the resorts, they will typically arrange for you to be picked up (although you probably shouldn't count on them being on time). A return trip on a longtail ferry should cost 500 baht and takes about 10 minutes. If that's too long for you, laid-back Ko Lon is probably not the place for you. However, you may be able to charter a speed boat. If you have made no arrangements, your best chance is to be at Ao Chalong in the early morning.

Get around

[edit]

Don't expect any roads other than a walking path. You won't need them either though, as the island is no more than 3km long and some 800m wide. The only real settlement apart from the resorts is a small fishermen's village on the east side of the island.

See

[edit]

There really isn't all that much to see or do here, other than relaxing in a hammock on one of the mostly deserted beaches. The waters aren't as clear here as they are in other places in this region, making snorkeling less appealing. Also, don't expect beaches away from your resort to be cleaned of shells or stones.

Buy

[edit]

There's a small grocery store with some very basic supplies, but it's safer to bring whatever you think you'll need.

Sleep

[edit]

There are some fairly simple but highly priced resorts and some have "compulsory" services. Expect to pay inflated prices for food.
