Manorhamilton, with a population of 1,158, is the largest town in North County Leitrim.

Get in

Glencar Waterfall, approximately 8 km from Manorhamilton
  • Manorhamilton is on the National Primary Route, N16, about half-way between Sligo, County Sligo and Enniskillen, County Fermanagh (which is in Northern Ireland). Don't be fooled by the designation of the N16 as a National Primary Route, much of the road is narrow and twisty, so care is needed when driving, but it is worth the effort.
  • Bus Eireann serves Manorhamilton each way to and from Sligo 4 times a day, the journey takes about 35 minutes.

Get around

Manorhamilton is quite small, and easily manageable on foot. However to discover much of the surrounding countryside a car or bike is required.

See

  • Glencar Waterfall, Glencar, County Leitrim (take the N16 road south from Manorhamilton in the direction of Sligo, watch for signs to the right to Glencar, approximately 8km (5 miles) from Manorhamilton). Beautiful waterfall in a small narrow glen, immortalised by the poet W.B. Yeats in his poem, The Stolen Child: Where the wandering water gushes/From the hills above Glencar,/In pools among the rushes/That scarce could bathe a star. Free.
