Kuruma is 7.5 kilometers from the world famous Sun temple at Konark. Recent excavations here have brought to light the reminiscence of some ancient antiquities like the image of Buddha seated in Bhumisparsa Mudra along with the image of Heruka and a 17 meters long brick wall (brick size 22 cm x 17 cm). Scholars are of opinion that this was one of the sites containing Buddhist stupas described by Hiuen T'Sang.
PARSWA DEVATA (GOD) in Oriya language is "JAMANTAKA" & "ABALOTIKESWAR" & "BAMAN" is called Three Devata (THREE BIKRAM). This place was surveyed by Archeological Department in 1971 and there is a big pond known as "Jamadharma Pond" (local language is "POKHARI").
The village of Kuruma has been inhabited by the Bhuyan family for a long time.

This is Buddhist monastery having twelve cells and the open courtyard at the centre. The monastery was founded by Mr Brajabandhu Das (a teacher of local school).
