Bobigny is a town in the northeastern suburbs of Paris, in Île-de-France. In 2018, it was home to 54,000 people. It is 9.1 km (5.7 mi) from the centre of Paris.

[edit]The south and west of the town are mainly occupied by areas of economic activity, the city centre consists of dense collective housing (residential towers) surrounding public facilities (town hall, prefecture, shopping centre Bobigny 2) and the north and northeast of the city (adjacent to Drancy) retain a suburban habitat old type, built in the early 20th century.

[edit]Bobigny is served by two stations on Paris Métro Line 5: Bobigny – Pantin – Raymond Queneau and Bobigny – Pablo Picasso. It can also be reached from the outer terminus of Paris Métro Line 7 at La Courneuve.

[edit]- 1 Islamic cemetery of Bobigny (Cimetière musulman de Bobigny). This listed historical monument is a Muslim-only burial ground. It is one of only two Muslim cemeteries in France. It was created by the French government in 1937 on the site adjacent to the Franco-Muslim Hospital of Bobigny and holds about 7,000 plots, for mainly North African people.
- Tour de l'Illustration. This sixty-meter-high tower was built in 1933 by the newspaper l'Illustration. Rehabilitated in 2009 by architects Robin Giraud and Jean Filhol (Sepra), the tower houses the international student residence of the CROUS in Créteil, comprising 57 rooms for students and researchers.
- 2 Bourse départementale du travail de la Seine-Saint-Denis, place de la Libération, avenue Jean-Jaurès et rue de la République. The Seine-Saint-Denis Departmental Labor Exchange is a building designed by Oscar Niemeyer and built between 1976 and 1978

[edit]Although Bobigny may be gentrifying and may be nicer than its reputation would have it, it is still one of the most dangerous places in metropolitan France. Exercise caution when visiting.
