Downtown Hapeville

Hapeville is a city in Metro Atlanta. It is the location for the future "Aerotropolis", a mixed-use project to be built at the site of the former Ford Assembly Plant, inspired by the success of Atlantic Station. The Aerotropolis will be built next to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and is intended to be a shopping, dining, and entertainment area for long layovers, and include hotels, condominiums, and office space for business travelers.

Buy

[edit]
  • 1 Delta Air Lines surplus sale, Museum Support Building (parking entrance at 1220 Woolman Place). Usually second Friday of every month 9AM-2PM. Every month, Delta sells off items it no longer needs, with proceeds benefiting the Delta Flight Museum in Hapeville. Selection varies, but can include things like first-class seats from retired aircraft, servingware and cutlery, vintage uniforms and merchandise, and office furniture. To avoid crowding, only a handful of people are allowed in at a time; arrive half an hour before opening to ensure you'll be among the first, or come later in the day to avoid the crowd. Everything purchased must be removed the same day, and you have to arrange your own transportation or shipping. The location of the sale is separate from the museum.

Eat

  • 1 Chick-fil-A Dwarf House, 461 N Central Ave, +1 404-762-1746. This is where Chick-fil-A got its start. Opened in 1946 as the Dwarf Grill, and later renamed the Dwarf House, it still operates as a sit down diner. Its waitresses are still serving the original pre Chick-fil-A menu.
  • Grecian Gyro, 855 Virginia Ave, +1 404-762-1627. "Once a week, go Greek!" True to their slogan, many employees at Delta Air Lines and the airport make a point of coming to this excellent Greek restaurant regularly. A standard gyro is enough for lunch, or make it a platter with fantastic seasoned home fries and a Greek salad.
