The Latin countries are states where the Latin-based Romance languages predominate, and whose inhabitants are often referred to as Latin peoples.

  • Roman Empire — the Latin-speaking civilisation which gave rise to the Romance languages and Latin peoples of today
  • Latin Europe — the Latin countries of western and southwestern Europe
  • Romania and Moldova — the Latin countries of eastern Europe

The Americas

  • Latin America — the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking parts of the Americas
  • The Philippines — former Spanish colony where the language is no longer widely spoken but has strongly influenced the country's native languages and culture
