Batken is a town of 16,000 people (2021) in the Ferghana Valley of Kyrgyzstan, close by to the border crossing to Tajikistan.

Understand

[edit]

The town was heavily damaged by shelling in the 2022 Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan clashes.

Get in

[edit]

Shared taxis depart when full from Osh, taking about 5 hours and costing 1000 som when not crossing the Uzbek enclave. As the main road between Osh and Batken passes through a small bit of Uzbekistan, remember to ask the driver to go around if you do not have an Uzbek visa in addition to a multiple entry Kyrgyz visa.
