Willandra Lakes Region

Contents

The Willandra Lakes Region is a World Heritage Site (WHS) in the southwestern ends of Outback New South Wales.

The main thing to see in the region is Mungo National Park, however, the WHS is much more than the park.

The Willandra Lakes Region is the traditional meeting place of the Muthi Muthi, Ngiyampaa and Barkinji Aboriginal tribes. Willandra's archaeological record demonstrates continuous human occupation of the area for at least 40,000 years. It is one of the oldest known human occupation sites in Australia. There is abundant evidence of Aboriginal occupation over the last 10,000 years.

This article is on an extra-hierarchical region, describing a region that does not fit into the hierarchy Wikivoyage uses to organise most articles. These "extraregion" articles usually provide only basic information and links to articles in the hierarchy. This article can be expanded if the information is specific to the page; otherwise new text should generally go in the appropriate region or city article.
