Subantarctic islands > Marion Island

Prince Edward Islands redirects here. For Canada's smallest province, see Prince Edward Island

Marion Island and Prince Edward Island (sometimes collectively called the Prince Edward Islands, even though Marion is the larger and more visited island) are two Subantarctic islands, south and territory of South Africa.

Get in

The only way to travel to Marion Island is as a team member on board a South African research vessel. Communication is served by the ship S.A. Agulhas that travels Cape Town-Marion Island once a year.

Get around

Understand

Marion Island is run as a research station by South African National Antarctic Programme (SANAP).

Marion Island is not a tourist destination and access is limited to SANAP team members. Research team members remain on the island for 14 months, but it is also possible to visit the island as part of the relief team.

  • The Crozet Islands is another Subantarctic archipelago around 1,000 km (620 mi) east. It's administered by France, but a trip to the archipelago on the Marion Durfense can cost up to €9,000.
This park travel guide to Marion Island is an outline and needs more content. It has a template, but there is not enough information present. Please plunge forward and help it grow!
