Khedbrahma is in North Gujarat, India. The city has several temples visited by pilgrims.

Brahma Temple

Khedbrahma is situated on the banks of Harnav river which divides city in north and south. The town is connected with mythological history and has been pilgrim site for centuries. The 11th century Brahma, Ambika and Pankhnath Mahadev temples are the oldest monuments of the town. The town has an old stepwell, the Brahma Vav. It was under Parmaras, Chaulukyas and Pariharas before it came under Idar State in 13th century.

Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC/ST), provides bus service connecting all major cities and towns of Gujarat. Go 2 Khedbrahma GSRTC Bus Station. or 3 Petrol Pump Bus Stop.

By Jeep

Shared Jeeps are available from Idar and Himmatnagar but they are somewhat crowded and uncomfortable.

By plane

The nearest airport is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at Ahmedabad.

  • 1 Brahma Vav, opposite the Brahma temple. Based on ornamentation of the miniature shrines in the stepwell, it is dated to 14th century. It has 27 niches without any idols now. It is now in despair due to lack of maintenance. Brahma Vav (Q108695335) on Wikidata Brahma Vav on Wikipedia

  • 3 Ambika Mataji temple (Nana Ambaji temple). Situated in north-east of the town, the Ambika temple was originally built in the early 11th century and renovated many time subsequently.
  • 4 Bhrigurishi Ashram and Bhrigunath Mahadev temple. It is associated with folklores and Puranic stories.
  • 5 Kshirjamba Mahalaxmi temple (Kshirjamba Mataji temple) (Opp. Brigu Rishi Ashram). According to religious texts, Kshirja was the family goddess of people created during the yajna of Brahma. The temple is on a hillock accessible by vehicle as well as steps. Gives a good view of the Harnav river.
  • 6 Pankhanath Mahadev temple (Pankheshwar). A west-facing plain simple temple which is restored several times. In the back-niche of the temple, there is a figure of Nataraja (Shivatandav) with eight hands which helps in deciding the dating of the temple. There is also one more Shiva figure in other form. The temple belongs to c. 11th century, built during reign of Bhima I of Chaulukya dynasty, contemporary of Sun Temple, Modhera. In the sanctum, there is a small protuberance instead of an elaborate lingam which is considered swayambhu (self-existent) by the devotees.
  • 7 Mahavir Swami Jain temple. 500 years old temple which is under reconstruction now.
