Risør is a very well preserved coast town between Kristiansand and Oslo, with an old history of sailing ships and lumber export in the golden days in the late 18 century. Nowadays known for art and handicraft.

  • Risør Akvarium, Strandgaten 14, +47 41648759. Closed due to Covid. Aquarium with various tropical fish, and many species from the Norwegian saltwater shore. Fish for crabs, or look at the spectacular piranas, catfishes, or stingrays. You can also fish for crabs in a big tank. Adults: 87kr Children (2-15 y.o) 67kr.
  • Den Hellige Ånds kirke (Risør church), Prestegata 6. Church built in 1647. free. Risør Church on Wikipedia
  • Risørflekken (The white spot) (You can see it from the city center, and can be reached by driving up Buvikbakken.). Risørflekken is a cliff painted white with chalk, originally painted in 1641 as a landmark to spot Risør from the sea. It has a great view over the city, and is by Urheia, a good walking path.

The white wooden houses in the inner city makes the town known as "Den hvite by ved Skagerak".
